Kim and Tom

1998

In the summer of 1998, two young Americans, Tom Latkovic and Kim Morgan, met by chance in a Munich hostel elevator and spent the evening talking, stargazing in the English Garden and feeling an immediate spark. The next morning, Kim had vanished without leaving any contact details, and Tom, lacking even her last name, devised a bold plan: scribbling his contact information on a piece of paper and heading to Marienplatz. “I’m more of a ‘providence favors the prepared’ kind of guy, if I ever just saw Kim walking somewhere, across the street, I could throw it to her or something. And that strategy was – find the biggest public place and find some way to be noticed” In Marienplatz he volunteered in a crowd to help a street performer, hoping to be noticed—and it worked. Kim tapped him on the shoulder and said, “I didn’t think I’d see you again,” while Tom replied, “I thought you’d left”. What began as a fleeting backpackers’ encounter turned into a lasting romance when Kim said where she’d be a week later—and Tom showed up. That summer’s connection blossomed into marriage in September 1999, and decades later the couple remains happily together. source: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/chance-encounters-backpackers-europe-1998
