In 1982, 22-year-old Vickie Moretz boarded a standby flight from Washington, D.C. to London and was thrilled to find the last available seat right next to her friend Sandra and a friendly British traveler named Graham. As they talked during the flight, Graham recalled, “We all just started chatting, and it felt really easy.” Vickie and Graham hit it off immediately, bonding over laughter and curiosity about each other’s lives. “It felt like we’d known each other forever,” Vickie later said. Graham offered to show them around London, and that chance encounter quickly turned into something more. Over 40 years later, they’re still married—living proof that, as Vickie put it, “Sometimes the seat you’re given is exactly the one you need.”
